Other updates:

  • Certainteed is almost all up (minus the seam between the two mods, which will be installed onsite)
  • windows and doors are caulked and ready to be painted
  • shading devices for the southeast windows are in prototype mode

carpenter's log: build date 09/25

quick update:

Cory is painting some cabinetry and starting to clad MOD1.

James is continuing with window trim.

Leslie is putting down flooring paper in MOD1 to get ready for our bamboo flooring tutorial.

Quarles is driving to a wedding, but probably thinking about cabinets and shading devices.

I
am blocking out all external outlets, vents, and light fixtures.

Perakis is busy working on some of the trim inside mod01.
Caldwell is slaving away on the cement fiber board siding.

...and he saw that it was good!

So I don't know how many days it has taken us to get to the bottom of this hole, but we have officially found undisturbed soil, cleared out the debris and begun placing 433 tons of #57 stone back in the hole. Wednesday, footings.

This short fuzzy camera phone video has been a long time in the making. Enjoy

We wouldn't want those solar panels to be shaded, would we?

A Slight Change of Plans

So we found that digging ten ton pieces of concrete out of the ground is an expensive proposition. We decided it was best to simply put our new found mountain of rubble back in the hole and cover it over.

deeper and deeper

There is treasure under there somewhere!

Today we started excavation in earnest and found large, very large, pieces of concrete. By the end of the day, we got down to around 15' and have not found undisturbed soil yet. Perhaps tomorrow.

We have a new file organization structure and I am so happy about it.

Site clearing

While I was working on the knotweed our contractor, DIGS, was taking
care of the big stuff. We have to eliminate all of the invasive species
(which is the bulk of vegetation on the site) to qualify for LEED points.

Hopefully the next step is clearing the mosquitoes off of the site.

Invasive patrol

I decimated Japanese knotweed this morning. I used cut shrub & vine killer which was so nasty that afterwards I couldn't even wash my clothes in my own washing machine because we have a septic tank and it could get into the groundwater. After reading the directions completely I don't think I'll ever be able to make myself buy it again. Once I'm out I think I'll use roundup for 2-3 treatments instead.

Would you live in this module?

Goings-on at Milton

I took these shots Tuesday after I got tired of being a Cad-monkey in the office with Edric and Alison (right).
